Why do people try to rescue me from the horrors of homeschooling?

What do you say to people who decide on their own accord that you are living your life wrong and you need to change? The incedent happened on Friday when a cashier asked my daughter if she had fun on her last day of school. MY daughter and I were caught off guard (cause we have learned to lie and just say yes or no) and we stated that she was homeschooled but did have fun today. Then the cashier proceeds to tell me that her child goes to a good private school and that I need to go there and enroll my children. So I try to ward off that comment by saying no thanks, I have two kids and private school is just too expensive. And she replys that they will let me work at the school in exchange for tuition. Now I am doing my darndest not to insult this woman, but I am also getting pretty steamed that someone is being so forceful and direct about my personal business. How dare she decide that my kids and I would be better off if I stopped teaching them and instead work at a school while...

NO TOLERANCE FOR NO TOLERANCE

Once again in the news, a child is practically abused due to no tolerance laws. This time a 10 year old girl is handcuffed for having a pair of scissors in her desk. HANDCUFFS???? Has the world gone mad? story here

are no tolerance laws pushing the public toward homeschooling

Seems like you are doomed if you do, and doomed if you dont: The child is guilty I just read an article about an 8 year old girl in Louisanna who brought what looks like jello shots to school.... by the rules of the non tolerance acts in school she is suspended whether or not there is really alchohol in the shots or not. Question.... before someone decided to add vodka, weren't they called jello jigglers? Yet she is suspended because her jello jigglers looks alot like jello shots. Now there is a chance that she brought alcohol to school... it is yet to be tested, but considering the fact that her mom helped her make it and encouraged her to sell it, I would think not. Secondly it was a stupid idea anyway considering it was discovered dripping from her bookbag.... it doesn't help that her mom ell the real thing at work after making it at home... It all just looks bad. But what if there is no alcohol in the jigglers... should this child be suspended? What does it m...

Mid year review

because the children enrichment programs (swimming, music, fine arts and history classes... i.e. socialization) are on hiatus for the holidays the kids decided that they too were on hiatus. After having company for two weeks and being away for one, it has been really hard to get them to do any school work so far this week. This morning I took the opportunity and let them play "educational games" while I reviewed their work to date. Once I showed them thier 'grades' and told them we would have to double our efforts for the remaining of the year, they had not problem getting back to work. The reason we need to double our efforts is because we will need to have time at the end of the year to review for the CAT tests which they will be taking this year. how they are doing: Both children got as decent scores in thier math and english work... the rest is not graded. My daughter was a year ahead in math when the year started, but I slowed her down to reinforce he...

because we homeschool...

I was able to spend the last week on beautiful Ameila Island at the Ritz Carlton. My husbands company had their yearly teambuilding retreat there. The children stayed with a friend from church and had a good little vacation of thier own. NO guilt, no missed tests, no difficulty finding a sitter who could work around their school schedule. Now, however it is time to get back to work.
