We let the children take charge when it comes to travel plans. Well, I don't know if I can really say let... They just take charge! We tell them how much money we plan to spend, and let them budget food, travel, recreation, etc. We have learned to double check plans before leaving. Last year we requested our son make skiing plans with a dog friendly hotel rooms. The problem was he didn't want to go skiing. So he made plans for hiking and told us nothing. We were so used to him making excellent plans that we just followed along. So there we were with tons of ski equipment and very little snow. It was a good thing a Walmart was nearby so we could get hiking boots!
