Why are kids so literal?

When I gave my kid a can of catfood to open and a toenail clip she had asked for previously, she tried to open the cat food can with the toenail clip.

Son Passed First CLEP Exam!

My son took the Analyzing and Interpreting Lit Clep this morning and scored a 52. You need 50 to pass. His score counts as a C (unofficially) for a college course, and since he is only 15 and in the 10th grade, I assigned him a B for his grade portfolio. He did do additional work for me while studying for the test... We will call it extra credit. This was supposed to be the easiest of all CLEPs, but I disagree. It is only easy if your child or student is an avid reader of literature. While my son IS an avid reader, he does not do poetry, or "literature". He mostly sticks to big, honkin' manuals. I think it might be easy for my daughter who does like novels with flowery language, so I will plan for her to take it in the spring. He is going to spend the next 6 weeks working towards the SAT with math review and working on his essay skills. After that we will tackle the History 1 CLEP. On being black and homeschooling.

If you didn't know my race previously, you do now. I am black. (african american, brown, non-white... whatever) There has been a great stir in the news lately because the number of black homeschooling has suddenly increased. As a black person, homeschooling is not a decision to be made lightly. "for the black community, teaching at home was frowned on because of the civil rights battle to get into public schools in the first place. Mike Smith with the Home School Legal Defense Association says the times are changing." But just as those first pioneers forced thier way into public schools to get quality educations for thier children , many people like myself are now fleeing. Why so late in the game? Easy... we didn't feel welcome, at first. Here's my personal story: I first looked into homeschooling when I lived in New Orleans. Middle school girls and Sex

My daughter is middle school age. She takes homeschool classes with other middle school students. She is almost 5 feet tall. She is just over 100 pounds. She still looks like a little girl. She acts like a little girl too. (she is child wearing yellow in the banner). Last week when I took my kids to the doctor and told her I wanted to put off the Cancer immunization until she was older, the doctor informed me that kids start having sex around my daughters age. Now I am hearing that a school in Maine is giving out birth control pills and patches to middle school girls WITHOUT parents knowledge or consent. I look at my daugther and it just doesn't make sense. Now I know that there are girls her age who certainly are more developed than my daughter, but at this age, I believe more effort should be put into monitoring and teaching children than giving out pills. Even if we put the moral ramifications aside... can someone tell me how school can give out birth control to girls without ev...
