Writing one blog post about this fiasco did not satisfy me. Here is my video response.

Ahermitt,

Thanks so much for your two posts on this. The national news media seems to have pretty much ignored this story. I have linked to both your posts on my blog: http://marcys-musings.blogspot.com/2008/02/another-are-schools-doing-their-job.html

I read you regularly and really appreciate your thoughts.

It sad but it looks almost impossible that Clayton County will regain its accreditation. If you or someone you know is in need to finish their High School career or even continue their education with college, I am telling you from personal experience that Ashworth High School (part of Ashworth University) is the way to go.

Ashworth is regionally and nationally accredited by SACS, CITA and DETC.

Just wanted to let you know that, besides our fully accredited High School program, we also have Career Training, Associate, Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree Programs.

This education opportunity is more than affordable to keep your children on the best education path and enhance their career opportunities.

On being black and homeschooling.

If you didn't know my race previously, you do now. I am black. (african american, brown, non-white... whatever) There has been a great stir in the news lately because the number of black homeschooling has suddenly increased. As a black person, homeschooling is not a decision to be made lightly. "for the black community, teaching at home was frowned on because of the civil rights battle to get into public schools in the first place. Mike Smith with the Home School Legal Defense Association says the times are changing." But just as those first pioneers forced thier way into public schools to get quality educations for thier children , many people like myself are now fleeing. Why so late in the game? Easy... we didn't feel welcome, at first. Here's my personal story: I first looked into homeschooling when I lived in New Orleans. I called the local homeschool association and had a very pleasant conversation in length. Finally, I was invited to come to a homesc...

Carnival of homeschooling - September 13, 2011

Welcome to the September 13, 2011 edition of carnival of homeschooling. In reading the entries submitted to this Carnival of Homeschooling, I got to thinking about the different ways you can  categorize  homeschooling.  Then, I got to thinking that it's pretty darn impossible to  categorize.  After all, homeschooling isn't a segment of our lives, it IS our lives and to me homeschooling is more like living and breathing and less like a thing we do. Regardless, I did my best to present this carnival in bite size pieces giving you home stuff , school stuff , somewhere in between stuff , and other valuable stuff .  Enjoy! As a little bonus, I am including some FREE KINDLE BOOKS you can use in your homeschooliing journey.  You don't need a Kindle to use them. Are You Paying the “Scholarship Tax”?

Image
Why families in Arizona, Florida, Georgia, and beyond are paying 20–50% more for homeschool supplies — and how to stop it. If you are one of the thousands of families using a state-funded Education Savings Account (ESA) or scholarship to educate your child, you might be noticing a disturbing trend. The money in your account seems to disappear faster than it should. https://medium.com/@ahermitt/are-you-paying-the-scholarship-tax-5e2f63500ef7
