Notes From a Homeschooling Mom, the Lost Files

During my First year of Homeschooling and the six months before that, I read and wrote voraciously about our journey. I did all of that writing in a password protected, membership only website. At the end of those 18 months, I started this blog, and compiled everything I had written before that into a booklet, which sat untouched for these past years. I have just recovered those files from my husbands computer and will share that with you. I will tag these posts "NFAHM lost files" for now, and will write an index on this post as I load them, which will take some time. For now, you can click on the tag, and you will get them in reverse order of course.

Why I blog about homeschooling

I am not awake right now. I am sound asleep. How am I blogging in my sleep you may ask? Easy, because I just stumbled upon a tool that allows you to blog in my absence. How cool is that? "This Internet thing is wild." (Tay Zonday) Anyway, in my last post I introduced a contest and I asked my readers to tell me why they blog about homeschooling (or education). I figured I might as well tell why I do it. I blog about homeschooling because I am a learner by nature. In fact, I am a kinesthetic learner. I learn by doing. So I started my homeschooling blog so I could record everything I learned, to cement it in my head and keep a record. I continued my homeschooling blog because now that i know what I know, I can't keep it to myself. I love sharing homeschooling encouragements with people who are on the fence, or don't know what to do. I love visiting with other homeschoolers through the electronic exchange of ideas. Like homeschooling, I just like it.

What is it about the holidays?

What is it about the holidays that makes the kids not want to do work? The kids have been trying to ingore me all week. It is obvious they want a Christmas break... soon guys, soon. They have one more class on Thursday, and then they are free until after New Years, though they will have to bring in completed projects when they go back. Meanwhile, they are doing everything possible, to put off things like...math, science, reading, etc. If they were younger, this would be a good time for an advent calendar of a unit studies. If you are going through the same thing right now and want to do a unit study instead of fighting with your kids, here is one you can try. Read more Notes From a Homeschooling Mom Visit Free Home Ed. I want a big honkin' Nativity

I very seldom put anything religios in my homeschooling blog because though I am conservative and Christian, I don't homeschool for that reason but... I just get so sick of driving into my neighborhood and seeing Giant blow up Santa's and Snowmen and everything that has nothing to do with the true meaning of Christmas. I wish someone would sell a nativity scene that stands nearly as tall as some of these Santa's. I saw one today that was over a story high! ps... here's an awesome youtube video that gets me in the Christmas mood. Read more Notes From a Homeschooling Mom Visit Free Home Ed.
