The Labors of Homeschool

As a homeschooling mom, I am truly a laborer for my family. I am a driver, some days driving back and forth numerous times to drop kids off at classes, to picking up lunch, to go to sports and social activities. I am a tutor, helping my children learn subjects they cannot learn on their own or that they need extra help in. I am an educational advocate, looking for and finding resources that will help my kids reach their academic goals. I am an organizational assistant, teaching my kids the importance of keeping your affairs and paperwork in order to avoid melt downs later. I am a cheer leader, cheering my kids on to reach new heights with shouts of you can do it, and go kid go! I am a mom, with all the usual mom duties, from babying sick kids, to preparing dinner, and making sure laundry is done and put away. I am a wife with all the usual wife duties of holding my husband up when he is down, and making sure his basic needs are met. My biggest labor for my family that I gladly perfo...

When we first started homeschooling, we took full advantage of software such as Math Blaster, Reading Blaster, and similar titles. These games are as much fun as they are educational, and it sure made me happy when my kids came to me asking if they could "play" their educational games. These games I mentioned and more are available through a company called Knowledge Adventure who creates many award winning multimedia educational software that is used in both homes and schools. I haven't used their product much in the last few years since my kids are getting older, but Say it in Spanish looks good for my Christmas list. I wonder if they plan do make one for Mandarin Chinese... ...

America Oursourcing teachers?

“Some of the largest users of H-1B visas aren't tech firms or major research universities. Rather, these unlikely users are the nation's public school systems.” (Ednews.org) Baltimore had 196 visas issued to teachers for the 2006-2007 school year. New York City had 171. Smaller school districts have a proportionate number of foreign teachers. Read more Read more Notes From a Homeschooling Mom Visit Me at the Families.com Homeschool Blog

Here are my recent homeschool articles on families.com Back to Homeschool 2008-2009 by Andrea Hermitt I have spent the better part of the last two days in back-to-homeschool mode.
