I fear the day when it is time to teach my homeschooled kids to drive. I went to highschool in a suburb outside of NY where drivers ed was not given... most teens took public transportation. But where we live now, public transportation consists of buses to and from the city in the morning and evening.
My mother refused to teach me how to drive. She thought I was too unpredictable and feared I would play a joke on her. (My older brother had scared her to death by driving to the edge of the river and stopping).
Frankly, I am not too crazy about teaching my kids to drive either. Fortunately, I may not have to teach them myslef at all. They can learn to drive using Drivers Ed Direct.
This is a great and safe way to teach your kids to drive! Kids can learn to drive using an online tool. I hope the full service makes it to GA soon!
According to Drivers Ed Direct (www.driverseddirect.com), they are "revolutionizing the drivers education industry by replacing old cars, dimly lit sterile classrooms and out-of-touch instructors with engaging, interactive technology, and the most talented instructors in the industry. "
Drivers Ed Direct promises to "put safety needs first without putting students’ needs last." They use a mentoring style approach to teaching students using technology and the Internet. They also use gas-electric hybrid vehicles exclusively, while teaching the importance of social responsibility and caring for the environment.
This online drivers ed courses is approved in California, Florida and Nevada, currently, but available all over via the internet. Drivers Ed Direct also provides in-vehicle drivers training in the greater Los Angeles area using thier great fleet of hybrid cars and SUVs.
My son will start his drivers ed training in about 3 years. I can't wait to try out this service with him.
If any of your homeschoolers use it, please let me know how it goes.
