If my son had his way, he would be an unschooler

I think unschooling is an awesome and freeing way to learn, It's just that I'm not that evolved yet. I don't feel comfortable until all the criteria on the curriculum list has been checked off.

I do, however know enough to allow him time and space to do a little unschooling on his own.

Hi, I watched this video over on youtube and enjoyed your frankness. First off, I must live in the same region as you, because I have pictures of the same Nikki St. De Phalle sculptures with my kids draped all over them!

Second of all, I guess you could call me a reluctant unschooler. I have the same feelings as you about covering all of the bases and my kids have the same strong notions about learning their own way. There is no secret recipe for us, but this past year we have reached a sort of peaceful inbetween truce largely by having a homeschool time during which I provide the space, time and sometimes curriculum to work in, and they work independently at their own pace and ask for help if needed. The length of time depends on the kid and the rest of the time they pursue their own interests. Sounds so easy but it took us a few years to reach a balance we all could live with. Your son sounds like a computer wiz. That might be his main interest and could take him far.

Hope to visit here soon again!

Hello Kim! I spoke to hubby this morning about my son's feelings and he informed me that we have bent as far as we are going to bend. So we are at status quo for the time being.

We took the pictures at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens last fall. But this is a moving exhibit, (which must cost a fortune to move).

Thanks for the comments
