What Obama's Inauguration means to us

I am one of those black people who has never set myself apart from other people. I refuse to segregate myself. I shy away from black-only situations, and like to be in the middle of the action, no matter what color that action is. Still, while I have managed to transcend race in many areas of my life, I am surrounded by people who don't think like I do. I have siblings who feel held back by "the man". I have gone to college with people who already felt defeated. Insecurities based on nothing more than being black is a horrible thing to witness. For me, seeing Obama actually become the president means that whenever someone makes an excuse that "the man" is holding him back, my argument won't be empty talk. It means that there are no excuses for being less than great. It means that someone came before you, it has been done... what is your problem. I think my kids explained it best. After the inauguration I asked my 14 year old son what this moment me...

Why Farting and the art of parent communication caught my eye.

I spent the week writing the Carnival of Education . It is posted over at Examiner.com where I have the national education blog . It was the first time I had ever written a Carnival and can't believe how much work goes into putting them together. Sure, I could have used the intant-carnival option and posted each post in order as they came with no rhyme, reason, or order, but then you would have subjected to inordinate amounts of spam posts that I did not enter. Anyway, for your maximum entertainment, I read each and every post. I learned a lot too. I suggest you read it, especially homeschoolers... teachers have great resources, and it helps to know what goes on in a teachers day. Finally, we will get to the subject at hand... my favorite post from the Carnival or Education. Chris Wondra presents Farting and the art of parent communication posted at Chris Wondra .com . Having a mother who was a teacher, and hearing her stories is probably what endeared this not-so politic...

What day is it?

We say that alot around here... we tend to lose count of what day it is, and even what week it is sometimes. When you don't go out of the house every day, the days can tend to run together. This spring however is going to be a bit different for us... My daughter is in two plays, and my son is doing tech in each of those plays. I have a feeling that if I lose track of days it will be because I don't know which end is up from all of the running around. Wish me luck. I am frazzled just thinking about it. Looking at my son's schedule, I counted Drama club, Chorus, Introduction to Drama Class, Piano Lessons , Music Theory Class, Homeschoolers take back the mall As I walked through the mall today I noticed several things. The first thing I noticed was that there were numerous school age kids in the mall with their parents.
