Don't parents think for themselves?

I am confused. I live in the Georgia NE area that is flooding today. I am watching a news story about Cobb County schools closing after flooding and parents screaming that their kids the kids should have never been sent to school. They are angry that schools were open and the kids were permitted to go to school... but I am looking at these upset parents and asking myself... didn't the parents have to dress those kids and put them on the school buses. If they didn't know better, then how could the schools.... If they did know better, why did they send the kids in? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Read more Notes From a Homeschooling Mom Visit Me at the Families.com Homeschool Blog Visit My Education Column at Examiner.com

Website Curriculum Review: Guaranteach

I was recently introduced to a new online math website called Guaranteach.com. It is a math website that provides online math help through the use of video. It is value priced at only $9.95 a month. I have seen this done by other websites and feel that it is truly the way math should be taught (through video), but gauranteach goes one step further customizes the program by letting students and parents create settings that fit the students learning style. I have used different video based lessons over the years to homeschool my kids. The customization feature of this site solves that problem. You can adjust the settings for something more or less serious. To be more verbal or less, more real world, or to have more or fewer pictures. The student will also have a hard time getting bored because there are numerous teachers to help them th...

Why I am not against using teachers in homeschooling

Image
I ran into my daughters art teacher today and she told me my daughter was fabulous. Well, I know my daughter is fabulous so I agreed. She clarified by telling me how impressed she was with my daughters level of artwork in this her first real drawing class. I had seen her working previously, and had noticed that her perspective was excellent. It took another person, an expert in art to tell me just how good her work was. You'd think that as an artist who has been drawing since the age of six that I would know that the kid has killer arts skills, but she would not draw flowers and candle sticks for me... The only think I've seen her draw ever is anime stuff. So for that reason I am glad to get input from other adults who can bring things out of her that I have not been able to or have not thought to.
