The big list of female teachers who violated students

Net World Daily may not be one of my favorite websites, but they have done the job of compiling the information on sex crimes by female teachers on students over the past three years. A quick count gave me just under 170 teachers committing sex crimes. And this is just women's predators. I dare say this rivals the damage done by Catholic Priests in the 1970's and 1980's. Students from elementary to highschool to special needs were violated. Read more Notes From a Homeschooling Mom Visit Me at the Families.com Homeschool Blog Visit My Education Column at Examiner.com

Why Andrew Sullivan is Wrong

As I sit here watching Andrew Sullivan spout his fact that the economy is in the horrible condition it is in is because Americans have been greedy and overextended themselves. Now he is not alone in this argument. Many talking head pundits have spouted this theory over the past week or so. I, however am in a unique situation to see this from a different point of view. Six years ago when I had my house built, I put down 10% cash on my house and my mortgage payments were 1/5, (20%) of our income. If my realtor and mortgage broker had their way, I would have purchased a home in a country club community that pushed 40% of our income. We knew that it was a bad deal, no matter how hard the banker and realtor pushed for a higher commission. But that's beside the point. A lot has changed for my family in the last six years. My husband's job situation has changed dramatically, and his income has nearly been cut in half. Even with me working part time online while I still homesc...

If you don't homeschool, you're a heathen?

I just read a blog from a Christian homeschooler who stated Real Christians Homeschool and anyone who send their child to school, Christian or otherwise is a heathen. I kept searching for the punchline because I thought "surely this must be a joke", but I could not. I think this is a dangerous statement to make for several reasons. 1. This is the biggest reason homeschoolers are vilified as it attempts to demean those who do not homeschool. 2. There are many good god-fearing Christians who do not homeschool, and God may actually have a plan for their family within the Christian or public school setting. 3. This is just bad behavior that I can't see God honoring.... "let the one without sit cast the first stone....". I am a Christian Homeschooler, and don't don't approve THAT message! Homeschool Telemarketers for Word Smart

I have been getting telemarketing calls for the last couple of days from a company called The learning Center. The number they called me from is 2695372097. They use one of those automated dialing systems so that means that they call me, and spend ficve minutes saying "Hello.... Hello... Hello" before finally hanging up. They called me again today and this time I got a human after the third Hello. I got a man with a very authorative voice who asked if I was still homeschooling and asked if I was using CD Roms or computers. I very pointedly said NO. He ignored my answer and went on to inform me of a program they are offering on a 30 day trial called Word Smart. It is supposed to help k-12 students improve reading and comprehension. I attempted to protest that I did not want it and the guy rudely cut me off and hung up. I don't know which part of that call was most audacious. The good news is that you can call the number back and have them take you off the mailing...

The Labors of Homeschool

As a homeschooling mom, I am truly a laborer for my family. I am a driver, some days driving back and forth numerous times to drop kids off at classes, to picking up lunch, to go to sports and social activities. I am a tutor, helping my children learn subjects they cannot learn on their own or that they need extra help in. I am an educational advocate, looking for and finding resources that will help my kids reach their academic goals. I am an organizational assistant, teaching my kids the importance of keeping your affairs and paperwork in order to avoid melt downs later. I am a cheer leader, cheering my kids on to reach new heights with shouts of you can do it, and go kid go! I am a mom, with all the usual mom duties, from babying sick kids, to preparing dinner, and making sure laundry is done and put away. I am a wife with all the usual wife duties of holding my husband up when he is down, and making sure his basic needs are met. My biggest labor for my family that I gladly perfo...
