Homeschool Blogging A to Z: J is for Jokes

Image
Homeschoolers have a good sense of humor.  In fact, I don't know that anyone teases homeschoolers more than homeschoolers.  We wear t-shirts proclaiming "homeskooled" and sometimes the moms wear denim dresses just for sport, per the stereotype.  Regardless, here are some videos featuring homeschool jokes for

Homeschool Blogging A to Z: I is for Internet

Without the internet, I would not be homeschooling.  Period.   With online curriculum, Instant research capabilities message groups and free curriculum, homeschooling probably would not have taken off as such a big movement without this wonderful technology.  Here's to the internet! Homeschool Blogging A to Z: H is for Highschool

As my kids got closer and closer to high school age, their homeschool friends started disappearing.  Where I only had to drive five or 10 minutes to do things with other homeschoolers, we now drive 40 minutes regularly, especially if we want a large crowd of homeschoolers. The reason is that homeschoolers drop off (enroll in public and private school) as they reach high school age.

Homeschool Blogging A to Z: G is for Giftedness

Before we began homeschooling, back when my son was in Kindergarten (in New Orleans) and first grade (in New York), both school suggested that he be tested for giftedness at the appropriate age.  We ended up in Georgia for 2nd grade, and they insisted that he not be tested.  There was nothing special about him, they

Homeschool blogging A to Z : F is for Free

An argument I often hear about homeschooling is that only well to do families can homeschool because it costs so much.   That's just not true. The bulk of my homeschool materials are FREE.  Yes, free....

Homeschool blogging A to Z : E is for Email Lists

If it were not for email lists, I probably wouldn't still be homeschooling. Email lists (like yahoo groups) are a great way for homeschoolers to access the knowledge and resources of everyone else in the group. I belong to probably a half dozen of these homeschool email lists, and each for a

Homeschool blogging A to Z : D is for Democrats

As written by Ann Zeise on her A to Z homeschool website, "Democrats Homeschool Too"! Most people like to put homeschoolers into a little box.  They classify us as odd, reclusive, and Conservative Christians... very Conservative, and definitely Republican.  But the truth is, there are homeschoolers on both sides of the political

Homeschool blogging A to Z : C is for Chorus

I know I already used "Arts" in my A to Z blog, but I just got home from a chorus event.  It was the final chorus of the year.  After this is a piano and solo voice recital, and then graduation for the seniors.  16 of my kids friends are graduating this year, and a few other kids are going in different

Homeschooling A-Z: B is for Blogging

Image
I don't know that I would have continued homeschooling for as long as I have if it had not been for blogging. Blogging has allowed me to share what I am doing with other homeschoolers, vent, and seek help.  It has helped me to know I am not alone.  It has given me a great deal of information and support that has sustained us over the years. Sure, homeschooling existed before blogging became vogue, but blogging made

Homeschool blogging A to Z Intro: Arts

I decided to join the April Blogging from A to Z challenge (very late in the game) as a way to rejuvenate my  blogging dedication.  In view of changes to the internet and content writing in the past two months, I have decided to dedicated myself more fully to homeschooling and blogging about it.  That was always my path

Summer Plans for my Homeschoolers

This time of the year, I am usually focused on planning for next school year.  This time, I am busy planning for summer.  Unlike previous years, we are not homeschooling through the summer (for the most part), but I am sending the kids forth to participate in summer programs. My daughter will spend a week at Wesleyan College in Macon for their Fine Arts Intensive Program. She will then spend 2 weeks on a play at a theater in Atlanta (Fabrefaction), and spend another 2 weeks doing costuming for another play. My son will spend 1 week at SCAD summer seminars (God willing) and then hopefully do an internship with the rest of his time. I have ideas for back up plans in case my son's first choice of activities does not pan out.  We need to wait for acceptance letters.
