A grain of salt

I am very proud of my daughter.  She's apparently the type that you either love or hate.  I prefer that type of person to the type that would rather be invisible than to risk being disliked.

Reading over her adjudication sheets from this weekend, it is clear that in each case, one of the two judges LOVED what she did and the other DID NOT!.  I find it very interesting as I am seeing a pattern.  The exact same thing happened in her competitions from the fall.

So, in reading the comments, I was directed to look at who the comments came from and understand it from that point of view.  I can tell you in once case, the person wrote that she should not preface a piece, but jump into to it.  Well, she did jump into it... what they thought was an aside was actually part of the monologue, and so the judge did not know what she was judging.

A grain of salt.

Also, let's keep in mind that she was suffering from laryngitis,  and so one of the judges that judged her
musical pieces, judged it harshly.... the other said the opposite of everything she said.  Interestingly enough the one that judged her harshly was also a singer, and had done more TV than stage work.... You'd think they'd recognize that she was having a problem with her voice right, wrong...

A grain of salt.

The other judge did more stage work which is what my kid wants to do, and they LOVED her.

A grain of salt.

Please don't think that I am dismissing the judging.  I do my best to not wear those parent-tinted glasses, but I also can't take all comments at face value, when it is clear that some people just didn't seem to get what she was doing.  But at least they had a reaction be it good or bad.

I am just more apt to take the negative comments to heart that came from those that also praised her... though they didn't have much negative to say.   These are the comments we will use to adjust her performances before she goes to compete for college scholarships.

And that is the only way to get a fair balance on how she is doing, get her out there and get several learned opinions. It sounds like she is doing several things right.
